All you need to know about unlocking your phone

Phones sold after December 1, 2017 should already be unlocked or have an unlock code sticker on the box. To check if your phone is unlocked you will need to insert another carrier’s SIM card into it. If the device asks for an unlock code or says SIM Not Supported, the phone is locked.

Current customers with an active wireless account or cancelled account in the last 12 months can have their chatr phone unlocked by chatr. Any new device comes unlocked when bought directly from chatr.

For assistance determining if your device is unlocked or if you need help unlocking it, contact us, we’re happy to help!

How do I unlock my chatr phone or obtain my unlock code?

To unlock your phone, enter the unlock code.

  1. Find the unlock code on the side of the box for your phone. If it’s not on the box, you’ll need your 15-digit IMEI. You can find your IMEI on your phone by dialing *#06#.
  2. When you have your 15-digit IMEI ready, contact us to get your unlock code.
  3. Insert another carrier's SIM card into your phone and enter your unlock code when prompted.

If you enter the unlock code incorrectly too many times, you might permanently lock the device. If you permanently lock the device, you will need to contact your device's manufacturer for further assistance.

Can I unlock a device I bought from another carrier?

We’re only able to unlock phones that have been purchased directly from chatr. If you're unsure if your non-chatr phone is unlocked, reach out to the carrier where you purchased the phone.

Can I use my unlocked device anywhere in the world?

Yes, as long as there is service in that area on a network compatible with your device.
